Unusual 4-mile walk with great views along sandbar at low tide to southern edge of a Boston Harbor island, 6:45pm-9:00pm. Proper footwear required (hiking boots, sneakers, or water-resistant shoes); bring dinner & water. From Boston, take Rte. 3 South to exit 12, Rte. 3A South. Once under Rte. 3 bridge and through Neponset Circle, go over Neponset Bridge onto Quincy Shore Drive, then L on East Squantum Road 1.3 miles from Neponset Circle. Take E Squantum Road--which becomes Dorchester Street--for just over a mile to Shoreham Street on right. Park on Shoreham Street or nearby streets in spaces that allow parking. Highlights include Kendrick Pond, views of the Charles River, and the boardwalk crossing a marshland. Easy trails, minor ups and downs, with some roots and rocks, moderate pace. Walk followed by dinner/social hour at China Ruby Restaurant, in nearby Maynard, at around 2:00 PM. Meet 11:00 AM, at Lincoln Train Station commuter parking lot. 8:30am-11:30am. Slow-paced nature walk through fields, forests and a wet meadow to enjoy nature in summer with a focus on all the summer wildflowers in bloom. Directions: From the East - Take Route 2 westbound and get off at Exit 56 (Rte 4/225, Lexington/Bedford). At the fork in the ramp, bear right (Rte 4/225, Lexington/Bedford). At stop sign at end of ramp, turn left on Winter St. and follow directions From Winter St below. From the West - Take Rte 2 eastbound and get off at Exit 56 (Winter St/Waverly). At end of ramp, take right onto Winter St and follow directions From Winter St below. From Winter St - Follow Winter St for about one mile to its end and take a left onto Concord Ave. In 1/10th mile bear right onto Mill St. In 1/10th mile take first right down a hill into Rock Meadow parking lot. It comes just after 295 Mill St on the opposite side of the road. It comes on you quickly and is easy to miss.

This 12+ mile walk (with shorter options) has it all - ocean, marsh, beach, harbor, river, and ethnic and downtown neighborhoods. It starts with a visit to the annual Sand Sculpting Contest, passes through East Boston including a lunch stop, the Boston Waterfront, the edges of Charlestown and Cambridge, the Boston Esplanade and the Commonwealth Mall, ending at the Boston Marathon finish line. Enjoy a summer day of walking, and celebrate completion of the route at the Solis Irish pub. This walk has become an annual tradition and is a joint venture with FreeWalkers. Meet at 8:30am at the Wonderland Station (MBTA Blue Line) on the upper level plaza that overlooks Revere Beach. The meeting place is two flight up from the subway tracks. Be prepared with water, sunscreen, bug spray (for marsh), snacks, and for those with special or limited diets, a packed lunch. (Mid-day stop has limited lunch options.) $1 charge for non AMC members. NOTE: If you do not want to complete the entire 12+ miles, there are many MBTA stops along the route that make it easy to exit the walk. 7:30-9:30am. Beat the heat and bugs on a scenic early morning walk at Castle Island with a couple of loops around the "sugar bowl" followed by breakfast at Sullivan's (counter service). From I-93 take exit 15 Columbia Rd. and turn right on Columbia Rd. At the traffic circle take the 2nd exit onto William J Day Blvd. and follow 2 miles to end and park in the lot at Sullivan's, 2080 William J Day Blvd. Storm cancels. Leader: Beth Mosias

9:00am-12:00pm. Join us for a co-sponsored hike with both the Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts Chapters. We’ll be in the Blue Hills Reservation for a “Buck Hill Loop” hike. This will be at a moderate pace, on steep hills and rocky trails for 3½ - 4 miles. The trip is not recommended for beginners! We will summit Tucker, North Boyce, and Buck Hills via the Skyline Trail and return using the Red Dot Trail. Bring snacks/lunch, water, sun screen, and insect repellent. Sturdy footwear is a must. Driving Directions: Take Route 93/95/128 to Exit 3, Houghton's Pond. After following the exit ramps, proceed to and turn right at the stop sign onto Hillside Street. Houghton's Pond is located approximately 1/4 mile on the right. Drive into the main parking lot for Houghton’s Pond at 840 Hillside Street in Milton. We’ll meet at the Northwest corner of the lot (the opposite end from the pond) at 8:45am for a prompt 9:00am start.

9:00am-12:00noon. September is a wonderful season in New England: plants are weighed down with fruits and leaves are ablaze with colors. Come celebrate the season with a walk in Arlington’s Great Meadows. We’ll explore several different habitats during our journey: a pond, the pond edge, an upland forest, a field edge and a wet meadow. We will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history about the plants we see, and also learn why Arlington’s Great Meadows is in Lexington. Meeting Place: Meet at the Playground behind and to the right of The Waldorf School, 739 Mass Ave, Lexington, MA. NOTE WELL - PARKING: Please park along Mass Ave in Lexington in the vicinity of the Waldorf School (739 Mass Ave). PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE WALDORF SCHOOL PARKING LOT OR THE FOLLEN CHURCH PARKING LOT. BOTH ORGANIZATIONS OFTEN HAVE EVENTS ON WEEKENDS. After you park, walk down the driveway on the right side of Waldorf to the playing fields and turn right. We will meet above the playground and basketball court.
