Occasionally, we may moderate our pace to enjoy the natural world of this splendid forest. Spring peepers should still be singing from nearby wetlands, and gray-tree frogs and American toads are beginning their breeding song. Many avian migrants are moving through the area, while some are settling in to nest. If that is not enough to pique your interest, how about the chance to stand in 3 towns simultaneously? The plan is to hike different sections of the Blue Hills, looking for areas that need brushing and small trees cut. “Most” weeks we will mostly be hiking, with occasional short stops to clip or saw a small tree. Some weeks we might find an overgrown area and hike less distance, while doing more trailwork. If we find LARGE trees, we will record them for future trailwork events, we won’t be bringing the larger 2-man saw on these trips! We will also be recording issues into the DCR database. Each week will be a different section, so trailhead locations will be sent to those registered. Hikes will generally be about 4 hours (10-2), including a lunch stop. L Bob Vogel
Sun, Sept 24, 2023. Mass Audubon Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, Natick.
9:15am-11:30am. Join us on a 2-hour hike through the Mass Audubon Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary. Two years ago at this time, we spotted the most amazing mushrooms. We cannot promise that we will see them again, but we are hoping so. Trails are generally flat, with one gradual low hill trail, some rocks and tree roots. We will walk at a moderate pace, with some stops to appreciate the surroundings. Fee: Mass Audubon Members: No charge; non-members: $6 for Adults, $4 for Seniors. Ls Lisa Fleischman, Ken Cohen
